This post comes to you in celebration of Earth Day this coming Thursday, April 21!

Take a deep breath and don’t feel guilty. No guilt here. That’s not the point of this post. So keep reading!

We see ‘go green’ and ‘sustainable living’ or ‘conscious consumer’ - and the guilt hits, and then our defensive replies, and self chats. We tell ourselves there’s no way we can use beeswax wrap on everything, can’t always bring mason jars to weird co-ops to get my rice, menstrual cups are gross, no I can’t stop eating meat…

But pause and lower your weapons, because this isn’t a post that’s going to tell you to do any of that. There’s no guilt here, I promise.

Instead I hope you feel empowered, because you can make a difference. There are swaps we can make that have very little effect on our daily routines.

Skip your takeout or new outfit purchase this time and put that $70 toward these 5 EASY, SIMPLE, NON INTRUSIVE sustainable swaps to help the environment.

Bamboo toothbrush - $5

Cut back immensely on plastic waste from traditional and power toothbrushes with this swap. They stay clean and dry when stored properly and last just as long as their plastic counterpart.

Wool dryer balls - $20

I didn’t believe the reviews at first. But it’s true, these cut down on dryer time for drying clothes, for all size loads of laundry. Plus, you can stop putting very toxic dryer sheets in landfills and oceans everywhere!

(But feel free to leave the sheets in there while they last/ until they run out. The more that’s in there, the shorter your dryer time will be!)

Water bottle - $20

Or coffee mug, or wine tumbler, whatever you need for drinking throughout the day. Try to keep one in the car and/or at your place of work. Those are the two places you’re most prone to buying terrible plastic one-timers and then tossing them.

Metal straws - $8

Okay so you don’t wanna pass your mug or bottle through the coffee drive thru for you drink. Understandable! But get a reusable straw and tell your barista to hold on the plastic one next time. Plus use for your drinks and smoothies at home too!

Reusable shopping bags - $15

So happy to see places doing away with the awful plastic bags, but we’re not all there yet. So get some reusable cloth ones (or reuse your plastic ones when able) and keep them in your car or by the door for when you shop!

And remember not just the market, use them at the mall and everywhere!

Bonus #6 for dog owners!

If you have another $6 to throw in, reach for the recycled, non plastic, earth friendly waste bags! They cost about the same and we know how many of those we go through! Now you AND your pup are saving the world.
