The Survivors, by Jane Harper
My friend and I hosted our first book club meeting on our own at the end of June, yay!
It was a long time coming, having moved to a new area and have the world shut down - I couldn’t put into words how awesome it was to finally an an in person book club and book discussion!
There was awesome food, drinks of every kind, and awesome book banter about The Survivors. Meeting to people was also fun! So fun we have almost no pictures, the definition of a great night.
Had a ton of fun with the below callouts of a great first book, The Survivors.
The Survivors book club recap:
Murder mystery, set in Australia
No one guessed the murderer, he wasn’t even on the list - so we were guessing the whole time, no giveaways!
The setting was unique and those that listened to the audio book loved the Australian accents.
The book title as is relates to the characters a lot of us thought was profound.
We felt there were a lot of characters that we needed a flowchart to keep up with at times.
The character development for the wide array of characters lacked at times. Some of the relationships felt halfway there, especially once the truth came out.
We loved the small side stories of characters, so in addition to the murder mystery there were other outcomes coming together.
Have you read it? What did you think?
I can’t wait to update on future book club meetings and reads! Stay tuned!
My synopsis: Kieran and his family have returned years following a tragedy that upended their small town. Two deaths on a stormy night that Kieran has carried the guilt for for years are showing in his stressed relationships as he returns home. Then, a murder, similar to one from year before has the town scrambling for answers. Are all these deaths related? Is the same person responsible? Will this town find closure and peace?
