The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, by Taylor Jenkins Reid

  • Beautiful storytelling

  • Fast paced and full of life

  • Could be the next classic

  • 5 stars, x100

This book was sold out of every store for a couple months, and I really like buying from my local stores. I finally had one order it and I read it almost entirely in one day - if not for that pesky thing called a job.

Evelyn Hugo was unknown to me until bookstagram. One of the first couple books I saw this place raving about and everything I saw was a 5 star review, could it be the next classic, dynamic character, heart-breakingly beautiful way to intertwine two lives - and it’s all true.

There’s nothing I think I can say that Booksta hasn’t already. This is one of my favorite reads of the year, and possibly ever. This is definitely a book I would love to be able to read again for the first time.

The story of Evelyn, broken up by husband, paints the picture of a rise to fame for young girl with a dream. It's an amazing POV to be inside the head of Evelyn and why she makes the choices she does, and how she views her choices as she goes. As for me, my view of her became very complicated at times. Appreciating the relentless ambition but struggling with how she treated those closest to her. From what I hear, TJR is known for making these complicated characters, and I can't wait to read some more of hers.

I love TJR’s story telling. This was so fast paced and kept my attention for every sentence. I love the way the story was broken up both as a book and as Monique puts it together. The honesty of Evelyn’s POV and interview is enough to make you gulp back some tears at times.

I was so glad this was my first Pride Month read, and I hope it makes other lists for June too!

My synopsis: Evelyn Hugo is the actress of the century with a long line of drama that has never had an inside source, until now. Monique is shocked when Evelyn requests none other than her for an interview. With a stunted career in journalism, Monique is eager to start working with Evelyn and learn about her life - and seven husbands - that no one has been able to to before. There is a reason Evelyn has chosen her, and it will break your heart.
